Javier Medina. Madrid 1959.
Formación autodidacta.
Comenzó a pintar a los 13 años atraído por la pigmentación y la textura de los óleos, sus primeras obras eran composiciones basadas en elementos cotidianos.
En la década de los 90, la obra de Javier recibe la influencia de dos de sus otras pasiones: el buceo y la fotografía subacuática. Su pintura transcurre en estos años por una etapa figurativa de realidades y paisajes submarinos, inspirados en sus tantos viajes por el Mediterráneo, el Océano Indico, el Indopacifico, el Atlántico, el Caribe o Centroamérica. En esta época Javier colabora con diversas publicaciones como fotosub.
En unos de esos viajes regresa a la Gran Sabana Venezolana. Guiado por su búsqueda intuitiva, se asienta en la selva. En mitad de una noche, despierta y siente como se encuentra totalmente inmóvil, comienza a vibrar y toma conciencia de estar abandonando su cuerpo. Recuerda con nitidez haber sobrevolado la cabaña donde dormía, distanciarse a gran velocidad y ver la tierra cada vez mas pequeña hasta desaparecer. En ese instante se encontró flotando en un espacio cósmico.
La experiencia extracorporal –viaje astral– de Javier Medina se produce de forma espontánea y natural.
Este acontecimiento modifica en adelante su percepción de la realidad y también su manera de pintar. Javier Medina dice “sigo siendo un artista figurativo, porque pinto y desarrollo en toda mi obra lo que veo, salvo que mis visiones han variado, activadas por estos hechos que aún se siguen produciendo”.

Autodidact training.
He started painting at age 13 attracted by the pigmentation and texture of oil paintings, his early works were compositions based on everyday items.
In the 90’s, Javier’s work received the influence from two of his other passions: diving and underwater photography. His painting took place in these years by a figurative stage of realities and submarines landscapes, inspired by his many travels in the Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean, the Indo-Pacific, the Atlantic, the Caribbean or Central America. In this era Javier collaborated with various publications as fotosub.
In one of these trips, he went back to the Gran Sabana in Venezuela. Guided by its intuitive search, he sat in the jungle. In the middle of the night, woke up and felt like he was totally immobile, he began vibrating and was aware of abandoning his body. He remembers clearly flying over the hut where he slept, moving at high speed and watching the land increasingly small to disappear. In that moment he found himself floating in a cosmic space.
This out-of-body experience took place naturally and spontaneously.
This event now amends his perception of reality and also his way of painting. Javier Medina said “I remain a figurative artist because I paint and develop what I see, throughout my work, but my views have changed, triggered by these events that still continue happening.”
